Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Background

I started training BJJ in 1996, then seriously since 2002 under Tim Wolchek and my main instructor Bob Bass who is the first American Black Belt under Rigan Machado and 2x Pan American champion and the owner of South Bay Jiu Jitsu in Hermosa California, I spent several summers living in California training with Bob to help with my BJJ and MMA training. I have my 1st degree black belt in BJJ under Bob, I received all my belts from Bob directly. Bob was just recently promoted by Rigan to be the first American 8th degree Coral Belt in BJJ. I have competed heavily in Fight to Win, NAGA, CKA, and Pancrase winning many golds, silvers, and bronzes at the purple and brown belt level. I have also coached many more students to these same levels at the Wolchek Academy and through my Tuff Buff BJJ classes at CU Boulder.

Muay Thai Background

I met my Muay Thai instructor Kru Suchat “Arthur” Chunton in 1996. Kru Arthur was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand and had a professional record of 37-1 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok fighting out of the Sak Va Roon gym, of which we at Tuff Buffs represent. Kru Arthur bestowed me with my Kru status as an official Thai coach under Sak Va Roon. He was my corner for all of my Muay Thai fights and for a few of my MMA fights. I have fought in the Muay Thai ring in Colorado and Wyoming, amassing a 5-0 amateur record, winning some amateur titles. I have coached and cornered several other students to similar levels both at the Wolchek Academy and through my Tuff Buff Muay Thai classes here at CU. I have many students here at CU that compete for me at local smokers, tournaments, and amateur Thai fights here in Colorado.

Doce Pares Eskrima Full Contact Stick Fighting Background

I started training Doce Pares Eskrima with GM Steve Wolk and SGM Dong Cuesta in 1996, and was promoted to 5th Degree Black Belt under the late SGM Diony Canete in 2023. SGM Diony and SGM Dong lead the Doce Pares Headquarters in Cebu City, Philippines as well as Diony founding the World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (WEKAF) that runs the World Championships. I am a 14 time National champion and 8 time World Champion in this organization, having to win regionals, then nationals to be on Team USA then winning worlds 8 times. I am also the Rocky Mountain Regional Director for WEKAF, and have served as head center referee for the same WEKAF regional, national, and world events. I have fought in the Philippines, Hungary, Mexico, Las Vegas, New York, California, Wisconsin, and Colorado, also coaching many other students to these same levels both at the Wolchek Academy and through my Tuff Buff Eskrima classes at CU.

Boxing Background

I started training with my coach Dave Gaudette in 2002. Dave owns the Front Range Boxing Academy here in Boulder. Dave has been training since the 1970’s in Philadelphia under Marvin Hagler’s coach and was a long time sparring partner of Marvin Hagler, Dave was also an Olympic alternate in the 70’s. I fought in the Golden Gloves with Dave in my corner in 2003 and 2005. I am also a USA Boxing certified coach, having cornered several of my boxing students in the Golden Gloves as well. I currently help Dave with making his shirts and apparel.

MMA Background

I have a 2-3 amateur MMA record here in Colorado, fighting in Ring of Fire, Rocky Mountain Bad Boys, and Kickdown events. My corners were Sifu Tim Mills, Kru Arthur Chunton, and Mr. Tim Wolchek across those different events. I have a few students that I have cornered both at the Wolchek Academy and through my Tuff Buff classes at CU, including my longtime student current local Pro MMA fighter Drew Johnson, who I have been training since he was 5 years old, he is currently 27.

Sport Karate Background

Started training karate in 1992 with Mr. Randy Reid, Mr. Jeff Denu, and Mr. Tim Wolchek in the Karate America system in Wisconsin, of which I am a 4th Degree Black Belt under Mr. Wolchek, running/managing and head instructing at Karate America Boulder (now the Wolchek Academy in Boulder) since 2002.

I also have my 1st Degree Black Belt in Kajukenbo (Hawaiian Kenpo) under Sifu Tim Mills (local MMA ref who refs for UFC went it comes to Colorado) and Sifu Sam Carter in the same lineage as John Hackleman, who taught and cornered UFC legend Chuck Liddell.

I have competed and won many CKA state titles as well as competing in and winning NASKA and NBL tournaments, traveling the state and national circuits in point fighting and coached many more students to that level.

I have a long and extensive background in the martial arts across multiple disciplines and have success for myself and my students at the regional, state, national, and world levels. This is my full time job and lifelong passion, I have been teaching professionally for over 25 years.
